HP Chromebook 14 Laptop Complete Review

HP Chromebook 14 Laptop Review – Best Low End Laptop?

Chromebooks are affordable laptops and are ideal for beginners to get started with. The best fact about Chromebook is that Chromebooks run on Chrome OS which is developed and maintained by the tech-giant Google just like our Android operating system. Often some people prefer Chromebooks over Windows because of its enhanced security and protection against viruses and malware. And it is often seen that Chromebook often outperforms Windows when it is a matter of security and malware protection.

The main reason behind this may be that Windows devices catch the viruses from cracked software while Chromebook doesn’t as most of the apps and games on Chromebook are free to download and use.

Keeping those things apart let’s start our discussion on HP Chromebook 14.

Processor:

HP Chromebook 14 runs on Intel Celeron N4020 processor. The processor is an entry level budget friendly processor. And that’s the season this processor has been used in this device.

As discussed earlier that this processor is not indented for some heavy purpose like gaming or graphics/video editing, but normal processes like web surfing, and document-making can be smoothly done on this processor.

This processor was launched by Intel in late 2019. So from the date of writing this article this processor is about 2 years old.

Technical Specification (No. of Cores, Clock Speed etc.):

Intel Celeron N4020 has 2 cores and 2 threads, which turns out to be that this processor does not support hyper threading.

The base clock speed of the processor is 1.10 GHz but it can go up to 2.80 GHz with its ‘Burst Frequency’ feature and that’s the maximum clock speed of the processor.

The amount of L3 cache present in the processor is 4 MB

A likeable fact about the processor is its power consumption. Being a low end processor the Intel Celeron N4020 runs on extremely low power compared to other CPUs. In ideal state it consumes just 6 W of power every hour.

Memory:

HP Chromebook 14 is packed with a 4 GB RAM. For a Chromebook this amount of RAM is decent to handle daily works. As the Chrome OS which is the OS that comes up with the laptop is good to run on a 4 GB RAM PC, that’s why you are not going to have any massive problem while doing soft works on your Chromebook.

But can’t ignore the fact than now-a-days a 4 GB primary memory (RAM) is not enough for handling works like heavy web browsing with about 10 active web browser tabs.

In the case of secondary memory, HP offers a 64 GB fast eMMC SSD in this laptop. The 64 GB SSD can be used to store all your required files and apps. Undoubtly, 64 GB memory is nothing now-a-days for a laptop. So with no surprise, that first investment that has to be made on the laptop is on the storage expansion of your Chromebook.

HP allows you to upgrade the storage of your Chromebook by using a SSD. The maximum SSD memory that this laptop will support is 256 GB. If you need even more storage you can use cloud storage like Google Drive which comes preinstalled with in your Chromebook.

Still it is being enforced once again that, the laptop being a low end laptop, the amount of the primary memory & secondary memory just fits with the budget.

Display:

The best component of the laptop is undoubtedly its display. As this laptop is offering a fully touch screen display in the range of 30,000, so that’s really impressive and that’s what keeps the laptop ahead in the run against its competitors.

The size of the display is 14 inch.

Connectivity:

Just like any other laptop device, the laptop has lots of common connectivity options. Known connectivity features like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, LAN / WAN are available with the laptop.

The laptop has a dedicated LAN / Ethernet port that offers 10/100 and even up to 1000 mbps / 1 gbps connection speed.

There are other connectivity features like Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi present in the laptop. The adapter used in the device is capable of both Wi-Fi bands (i.e. – 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz). The maximum data transfer speed of the Wi-Fi adapter is about 1300 mbps. The Bluetooth adapter is also capable of gigabit-speed data transfer.

Unlike Windows OS, where there are still very few available & useful apps in the Microsoft Store, Chrome OS comes with Play Store.

And with Play Store, you can download thousands of compatible apps. So the laptop brings a step ahead fun and features with Play Store.

HP Chromebook 14 runs on Chrome OS. The OS has been developed by Google. The security of the operating system is way better than Windows. There are some great features of the OS which Windows lacks.
